Lack of Interest in Pakistan Studies

A country’s treasure is its rich history and all citizens have been taught it since childhood. As citizens of Pakistan we all should know how our country came into being, how poltical turmoil urged millions of Muslims to wish for a separate homeland and about the events that took place one after another which contributed to Muslims’ struggle against the British and then the Hindus.

But sadly students lack the eagerness to know their country’s history as they find it boring and yawn during class lectures if teacher don’t take notice. History consists of multiple events and incidents and a bunch of dates that we have to learn – which often seems to be uninteresting.

The responsibility goes to the parents, elders and especially teachers, to elaborate the topic by making it fascinating and understandable for the students. This can be achieved by organizing plays, debate competitions and visits to historical parts of the country. Most of all, they should teach in a way that makes each student participate in the class efficiently instead of instructing them to memorize the questions for the exams to make it even more complicated for the students to learn.

  1. I agree with Nusra Obaid. I want to add Pakistan Studies taught is already thoroughly distorted and an important portion already removed during Gen.Zia period. That portion is the role played by "Ulama e Hind" to sabotage Muslims struggle. Efforts should be made to include that portion in Pakistan Studies at every level.
