The orthopedic department of the Benazir Bhutto Hospital has allegedly been charging illegal fees from patients.

According to sources and several patients, orthopedic department has been purchasing platelets and other medicines for patients on expensive rates from private pharmaceutical companies.

Relatives of patients also said that doctors have been charging Rs5, 000 as operation fee and refuse to operate if not paid.

They claimed that hospital management has failed to take notice of the issue despite repeated complaints.

Repeated attempts were made for the version of the administration on the issue but queries were not responded to. A junior administration official while requesting anonymity claimed that only a nominal fee was being charged from patients.
