Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting, on Friday which gave approval to Shehbaz Sharif Merit Scholarship Programme and reviewed progress of scholarship programme for Chinese language.
Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said that under this programme, girl and boy students would be sent for education of Ph D in foreign universities while according to the programme, scholarships would be given to girl and boy students for master level education in universities of the country.
He said that all out resources for higher education would be provided to the girl and boy students selected under this programme through Punjab Educational Endowment Fund. He said that scholarships will be given every year to 30 students for PhD in foreign universities while one thousand students for higher education for master level in universities of the country.
The chief minister directed that an effective awareness campaign should be launched for the programme, adding that the third party audit policy should strictly be implemented for ensuring transparency of the programme. He said that girl and boy students of other provinces including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan will also be included in Shehbaz Sharif Merit Scholarship Programme. He said that Punjab government is sending 500 girl and boy students to China for two years course of learning Chinese language.
He said that first batch will go to China during current month while the second batch of students will be sent to China in next few months. He said that students of other provinces including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan will also be included in the group of students going to China for learning Chinese language.
