Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Monday admonished the administrations of the Rawalpindi and Islamabad for poor security arrangements that caused damage to public and private property by violent supporters of executed murderer Mumtaz Qadri.
Presiding over a joint meeting of Islamabad and Rawalpindi administrations and police, Nisar strongly condemned violence and damage to the property by protesters Sunday night.
The minister said it was the responsibility of the government and the administration to protect property and lives of the citizens. Violation of the law of land was unacceptable, he added.
Nisar directed to make prompt measures to bring life to normal for citizens of the twin cities.
Later, the interior minister also presided over a meeting of Federally Investigation Agency (FIA).
The FIA officials informed the minister that so far 321 proclaimed offenders, 17 most wanted suspects, 89 absconders and 688 other criminals had been arrested during the ongoing drive against human smugglers. While a total of 1,115 suspects were apprehended in the drive, it was informed.
The FIA official said that under the directives of the interior minister 75 percent work on developing a database to keep record of criminals had been completed. So far data of 2196 criminals had been updated.
He said it had been written formally to NADRA to block 640 CNICs of criminals. Moreover, after blocking their NICs, PTA and State Bank would block SIMs and bank accounts, respectively, the meeting was told.
The minister directed to immediately cancel passports of the criminals and put their names on passport control list.
He directed to further organize the ongoing drive to eliminate the heinous business.
Throwing responsibility on Twin cities Administration is not a good choice for the Interior Minister. It is not the first time that the Administration had failed to contain the demonstrations.
