The Supreme Court on Tuesday decided to refer the case of former military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf regarding removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL) to a larger bench.

During the hearing of a petition seeking removal of Musharraf’s name from the ECL, Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali remarked that the court would announce a verdict after hearing arguments of both parties on Wednesday.

He also clubbed the government and Musharraf s petition and remarked that the court would hear both applications simultaneously. During the course of proceedings, Dr Farogh Nasim, counsel for the former president, submitted a fresh medical report of his client. He said that his client was suffering from a disease whose treatment was not possible in Pakistan.

He said that the apex court in its interim order on July 3, 2013 stopped the former president from traveling abroad but the same was not mentioned in the main order and the matter was put on the government’s shoulders to decide the matter.

He said that the Sindh High Court allowed the former president to travel abroad but the Interior Ministry challenged the decision in the apex court which annulled the verdict. Hearing of the case was adjourned till Wednesday.
