The Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against the acquittal of former PML-N MNA Rana Nazir Khan in an illegal assets reference.
The bench also removed ban on transfer of former parliamentarian’s property after declaring it illegal.
The bench headed by Justice Muhammad Tariq Abbasi heard the appeal.
Earlier, a senior NAB prosecutor arguing before the bench submitted that the NAB moved an illegal assets reference against the former parliamentarian in an accountability court but the court acquitted the accused despite strong evidence against him. He pleaded the court to set aside the decision of accountability court.
However, Rana Nazir’s counsel submitted that the reference was filed against his client on political grounds and no evidence was available against him. It was the reason that the accountability court acquitted the accused, he added.
He maintained that the revenue department had imposed a ban on transfer of his client’s property on orders of NAB. He pleaded the bench to dismiss the appeal and also lift ban imposed by revenue department.
The bench after hearing detailed arguments, dismissed the appeal and removed ban on transfer of property.
I doubt NAB's appeal would not have rejected if he were not MNA of ruling party.
