Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday claimed that his party had proven right once again as the government’s tax amnesty scheme had failed.
Imran Khan tweeted on social media that the tax amnesty scheme had failed because it was aimed at penalising honest tax payers and rewarding tax evaders.
He opined that Pakistani people were the most generous donors in the world, but they wanted to see their leaders pay taxes. If people knew that their leaders were paying taxes honestly then they would pay taxes themselves, he added.
LEADERS OF MEN, PAY YOUR TAXES:
Imran Khan also urged the political leaders to pay their taxes honestly and not to steal the public money.
In a series of tweets on Saturday, Khan said, “When leaders are seen as honest tax payers not stealing public money, people will also pay their taxes.”
Imran Khan said that the nation was “the most generous charity donors” but that people needed to see their leaders pay taxes “and desist from siphoning off public money”.
Khan went on to say that federal government’s tax amnesty scheme has failed as it was a scheme to reward tax evaders while penalising honest tax payers.
Commenting on police reforms, the PTI chief claimed that PTI’s KP government had, for the first time, brought police out of political influence by empowering Inspector General of Police (IGP) under the law.
He said that the colonial era 1861 Police Act made the police subservient to political influence but that the 2002 Police Act which sought to alter this dynamic was resisted by the status quo.
Police would be held accountable before the Public Safety Commission that includes Nazims and Naib Nazims for the first time in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khan claimed and added that this would end ‘Thana culture.”
Imran challenged Punjab and Sindh provinces to end thana culture and depoliticise their police as the KP had done.
