Supreme Court (SC) has sought till third week of March, progress report from federation and provinces on the steps taken by them for elimination of environmental pollution.
A three-member bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali took up the case for hearing Wednesday.
KP government while filing the report told the court 743 notices were issued about environmental pollution. 68 cases are pending hearing with courts. Workshops on protection against pollution were organized in 7 districts. 33 schemes were declared legal. 2,801 vehicles were fined. 2,281 vehicles were locked up. Rs 192 million have been allocated for planting billon of trees.
Report filed by Balochistan said challans of 106 cases have been filed in environmental tribunal. These cases have been registered against hospitals, laboratories, crushing plants, and special re rolling mills and other. Tribunal has disposed of 40 cases. System for destroying garbage and slaughter houses waste is in place in several cities including Quetta. 80 brick kilns have been shifted out of city.
Islamabad environmental protection agency told the court that notices were issued to 32 companies and institutions on environmental pollution during 2016. Six orders on environmental protection have been issued.
CDA filed report saying environmental related job is domain of environmental protection agency.
No report could be filed by government of Sindh. The court sought progress report. No report was filed from Punjab government.
