Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid said on Friday that the government was committed to providing all-weather road link to Chitral by year-end and funds have been released for completion of the under-construction Lowari Tunnel.
Addressing office-bearers of the Chitral Press Club after their oath-taking here, the minister said that developed infrastructure and better transport facilities would ensure increased economic activity in Chitral and provide easy access to tourists from around the world.
He said that the present government would spend a total of Rs 16 billion for completion of the Lowari tunnel project this year, while in the past only Rs 7 billion were spent and at that ratio of allocation it would have taken many more years to complete the project. He said the present government’s efforts for early completion of Lowari tunnel were proof of its sincerity towards development of Chitral.
The minister hoped that newly-elected office-bearers of the press club would highlight the problems of the local people through the media. He also announced Rs 200,000 grant for the press club.
