A total of 2,159 terrorists have so far been killed and 1,724 arrested by law-enforcement agencies under the National Action Plan (NAP), stated a report submitted to the National Assembly on Friday.
Prepared by the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control, the report said that 332 persons had so far been executed under the anti-terrorism act (ATA) across the country. It added that 322 persons had been arrested and a sum of Rs 354.56 million meant for financing terrorism recovered. A total of 148 cases had been transferred to special trail courts (STCs) under the NAP.
According to the ministry, 98.3 million SIMs (subscriber identity modules) have been blocked for dismantling communication networks of terrorists, and nearly 933 URLs and 10 websites of organisation(s) blocked by the Ministry of Information Technology.
The report said that funds had been released to activate and strengthen the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and steps taken to establish and strengthen the JID. Some 2,337 cases were registered over hate speeches and provocative material, while 2,195 persons were arrested and 73 shops sealed. Likewise, 9,164 cases were registered, 9,340 persons arrested and 2,452 equipments confiscated over misuse of the loudspeakers act.
According to the report, 8,195 persons were included in the fourth schedule and movement of 2,052 people restricted to ensure prevention of re-emergence of proscribed organisations and individuals.
Similarly, as many as 167 seminaries were closed in Sindh, 13 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two in Punjab while a uniform registration and data form developed by the NACTA and ITMP was also shared with relevant stakeholders for registration and regulation of seminaries.
A list of activists and proscribed organisations was shared with MoIB and PEMRA to strictly implement the ban on glorification of terrorism in media under the NAP. A committee, headed by Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, was also constituted for FATA reforms. About 1,132 hardcore elements were pointed out in Punjab and 649 persons booked for facilitating hate speeches.
According to the report, target killing in Karachi dropped to 53 per cent, murders to 50 per cent, terrorism-related incidents by 80 per cent, dacoities 30 per cent and extortion cases 56 per cent owing to the operation led by the paramilitary Rangers.
The report detailed that a total of 69,179 criminals, 890 terrorists, 676 proclaimed offenders, 10,426 absconders, 124 kidnappers, 545 extortionists, 1,834 murderers were apprehended and 16,306 weapons seized in Karachi.
The report further said that steps were also taken for reconciliation process under which a number of Ferrari commandoes surrendered. Likewise, 25 centres were established across the country for registration of Afghan refugees.
