The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Thursday categorically denied reports that one of its students had been arrested on terrorism charges.

The LUMS, in a statement posted on the Facebook page of LUMS Students and Alumni Action Committee (LSAAC), said the rumours doing the rounds on social media originated from Indian media and a private Pakistani news channel.

“The student in question is a hostelite, currently in LUMS. He is neither a graduate nor his father is an army officer as claimed by the news outlets,” it added.

The LSAAC referred to the news reports as “irresponsible journalism by news agencies.”

According to LUMS Dean of Student Affairs Yasser Hashmi and Director General (DG) Administration Amir Khan, no student of LUMS had been arrested.

It may be added that it was reported by some media that three suspects, including a student of a private university, were picked up by law enforcement agencies in connection with the recent attack on an airbase in India.

Some new channels had reported the arrest quoting intelligence agencies.
