Brigadier (r) Amjad Kayani, a brother of former Pakistan Army chief Gen (r) Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, on Monday claimed that a conspiracy was being hatched against the former army chief by dragging his name into the DHA Lahore City scam unnecessarily.
Talking to Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami on his talkshow DNA on Channel 24, Amjad Kayani said that his Gen Kayani was being maliciously involved in conspiracies, but he stopped short of naming those whom he thought were behind the plot.
“We are four brothers and all of us have served in the army. Three of us, including Kamran Kayani who is being accused of fraud in the DHA Lahore City project, have independent businesses and have never taken any benefit during Gen Kayani’s term in office,” he said, adding that it was wrong to accuse the former army chief without any evidence of nepotism.
Amjad Kayani denied that his brother Kamran had fled the country, saying he had nothing to worry about. “If any person has evidence against Kamran or Ashfaq Kayani he should bring it forward but this media trial of our family is unjustified,” he said.
Earlier it was reported that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif has asked for harsh action against retired military officers and civilians involved in the Rs 62 billion DHA Lahore scandal.
According to media reports, a NAB officer said that a senior military official had called on NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry in July last year and assured him of the army’s full support to the bureau in investigating the matter.
The NAB chief was informed that the COAS was determined that no one should be spared in the investigation, even army officials.
“The message Gen Sharif conveyed to the NAB chairman was that no-one involved in the scam should be spared and action should be taken, even if his own brothers are found to have links to the scam,” reports added.
