Labour dept completes inspection of 1,214 units

Punjab Labour and Human Resource Department has successfully completed online labour inspection of 1,214 units of all the industrial estates of the province on the directions of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif after the mishap of the collapse of a polythene manufacturing factory at Punjab Sundar Industrial Estate.

Director General Labour Welfare Muhammad Saleem Hussain said that in district Lahore as many as total number of 596 industrial units were inspected online while 330 units in Gujranwala, 115 at Faisalabad, 109 at Multan, 39 at Rawalpindi, 13 in Sahiwal, seven at Sargodha and five industrial units at Khanewal were successful inspected with the help latest Android technology and all the collected data was transferred to Headquarters in Lahore.

He informed that eight teams in Lahore district, four in Gujranwala, two teams each in Faisalabad, Multan while one team for other districts were constituted which completed all this procedure of Geo tagging and online inspection approximately within a month.

Director HQ Labour Daood Abdullah said that this online labour inspection has been launched first time in Pakistan by Punjab, taking the initiative to collect authenticated and transparent data regarding industrial units of all the provincial industrial estates to get information about any cases of child labour, ensuring minimum wages, occupational safety, registration and implementation on other related labour laws. District Labour Officer Lahore Syed Hasnaat Javed said that the department has to face strong resentment from some industrial units in process of online labour inspection, however, it was completed successfully.

He further said that Punjab Cabinet has approved “Restriction of Employment of Children Act” to make penalties and fines more strict in violation of Child Labour cases and out of school children of brick kiln workers have been enrolled in government schools under the radius of 2 km from their existing brick kiln so as to ensure eradication of child labour.
