Drainage system in Peshawar being improved on modern lines, says minister

KP Senior Minister for Local Government Inayatullah Khan Saturday said that drainage system in Peshawar is being improved on scientific lines wherein small drains along roads sides are converted into big underground gutters to suck even the rains and floods water and discharge it to at joining rivers outside the city after passing from treatment plants to make it pollution free.

He said this would solve problem of over flowing drains and ponds of standing filthy water on main squires and bazars downtown the metropolis for good and people would thus take sigh of relief in this regard. He was reiterated pledge of his provincial government that Peshawar would be made the most beautiful and developed city of the world besides compensating the injustices done with this city.

This he said while talking to the gatherings on eve of inaugurating works on modern system of drainage and sanitation under Municipal Services Program (MSP) at various localities of the city including Gulbahar, Sikandar Town and Dala Zak road.

Four main drains up to 13 KM length would be constructed with cost of Rs 500 M under this project that would permanently solve sanitation problem and would ensure smooth flow of drains in the city. MNA Sajid Nwaz Khan, Chairman DDAC Arbab Jihandad Khan, MPA Shoukat Ali Yousafzai, District Nazim Arbab Asim Khan, Nazim town-1 Zahid Nadim and other elite also spoke on these occasions who appreciated the developmental policy of the provincial government.

Senior Minister while appreciating the performance of MSP on sanitation and developmental sides said that this foreign aided program has considerably improved hygiene conditions not only in Peshawar but all over the province. He contended that international community more trusted KP government due to its transparent policies.

He said that rusted water pipes were being replaced and new schemes of water supply, sanitation and solid waste disposal were being completed where modern machines and equipment were also introduced. He said a monitoring committee headed by district Nazim has been constituted to closely watch quality completion of developmental schemes in the province.

Inayatullah regretted that no proper attention was given to Peshawar in the past regimes rather it was totally ignored on developmental side and such was the condition of cities in the entire province.

He however assured that his government would not allow ignoring any city while Peshawar would be brought at par with most developed cities to deem fit to its past glory in the history. He said Rs. 2 Billion were being spent on beautification of this city.

He said Bab-e-Peshawar flyover was being inaugurated soon while more mega projects were also in the pipeline. He asked the authorities to ensure prompt action on public complaints about sanitation as well as timely and quality completion of developmental schemes by the contractors.
