Capital Police arrested 8,256 accused during the year 2015 for their alleged involvement in various crime cases besides recovery of cache of weapons, narcotics and looted items worth around Rs. 408 million from them.
Police said crime rate significantly reduced in 2015. According to Islamabad Police statement, seven kidnapping incidents, 31 dacoity incidents, 324 street crime cases, 300 burglary cases, 354 theft cases and 261 bike theft cases were reported in 2015 as compared to 14 kidnapping cases, 57 dacoities, 522 street crime cases, 358 burglary cases, 428 theft cases and 442 motorbike theft cases were reported in the year 2014.
Car theft cases also reduced significantly and 51 per cent reduction was witnessed in such cases. Around 369 cases of vehicle theft were reported in 2015 and 767 in 2014. During this period, 943 proclaimed offenders were arrested and 5,084 cases were also disposed off.
Quoting IGP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, the police spokesman said it is the prime responsibility of police to provide relief to citizens, adding that every possible effort would be made to provide protection to the lives and property of citizens as well as resolving their complaints on immediate basis.
