Present govt pursuing labour friendly policies, ensuring welfare : Ayaz Sadiq


ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly (NA), Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that Labour Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of working men and women for whom the government is legislating.

“While remembering the Chicago Martyrs for their valiant struggle against oppression, exploitation and injustice, we also pay tribute to the labour community for its valuable contribution in building the nation,” said Ayaz in a message for the commemoration of Labour Day.

He informed that the present democratic government is pursuing labour friendly policies and have legislated for ensuring the welfare of the indispensable pillar of the country; the labour class.

Ayaz said that the day symbolises the strength and character of the Pakistani workforce and its devotion and commitment towards making the country progressive. The labour class plays a vital role in the development and progress of a country; therefore, it is essential to ensure welfare and payment of proper and timely remuneration for their services.

The speaker stated that Islam has also laid a great emphasis on the welfare and respectable treatment of labour and civilised societies in the world have legislated to ensure the rights of their labour force.

He further said that rights and duties go side by side and urged labourers to work hard to harness the country’s immense resources for the development of the country and its people.

The Deputy Speaker NA, Murtaza Javed Abbasi in his message also paid tribute to the workforce worldwide. He said that workforce is extremely significant for the socio-economic development of any country.

He reiterated that the present setup in the country is taking various steps for the welfare of labourers and their families.
