The Sindh cabinet on Thursday wrote a letter to the federal government regarding the unconditional restoration of policing powers for the paramilitary Rangers in Karachi.

The provincial government termed the act as an attack on Sindh’s sovereignty. The provincial government criticised the federation’s move to restore Rangers’ policing powers unilaterally.

The decision to write a letter to the Centre was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on December 23.

The meeting decided that the provincial government should not take the issue to the courts. Sindh’s media adviser Maula Bakhsh Chandio said that Sindh did not want to restrain Rangers from working but every institute should work within its jurisdiction. He said the provincial government did not want any conflict with the federation.

During the meeting, the Sindh home minister briefed the cabinet about the decision of the federal government on the issue. The office-holders of Sindh Assembly condemned the federation for rejecting the resolution presented by the Sindh Assembly. It was also decided in the meeting that the prime minister and interior minister would be taken in confidence on the resolution as well.

  1. The toothless CM is speaking in "His Master's voice". The ex-body-guard of Mr 10% controls the Sind Assembly as per dictation from across the Arabian Sea. None of them wants to explain why it was necessary to call -in the Rangers. And now when the Force has done a lot to improve L&O of the hostage city, he ALL have started to howl. A dozen people were being killed daily, factories were being burnt for Bhatta, Bandar-bant of Land and what not. The less said about the PPP misrule is better.
