13 countries’ ambassadors visit Mohenjo Daro

Sindh’s Tourism and Culture Minister Sharmila Farooqui said on Sunday that it was a very happy moment that ambassadors of 13 countries had come to visit World Heritage site of Mohenjo Daro along with their families.

She said that the place would become famous around the world as a result of the visit.

Talking to media personnel in Mohenjo Daro, she said that the dry core drilling project of Mohenjo Daro was a challenge, but despite financial problems, bad weather conditions, water logging and salinity problems, the project would be completed.

She said that due to visit of the distinguished guests, the image of Pakistan around the world would improve. She announced that solar system will soon be installed at Mohenjo Daro due to load shedding and that the site would be open to the tourists during night time.

Farooqui said that, unfortunately, the case of the theft of antiques from Mohenjo Daro was not pursued properly but that her team would look into the case again. She further announced that the services of the daily labourers would soon be regularised and notification in this connection will be issued.

She revealed that Sindh government had initiated wok on 11 other historical places of Sindh and more development works would be carried out next year.

Ambassadors who visited the site on Sunday hailed from countries such as India, Japan, Australia, Russia, Germany, Austria, Sri Lanka, Portugal, UN Agency and others. They were briefed about the historical background of the ruins and the people who lived there 5,000 years ago by Culture and Tourism Department Director General Qasim Ali Qasim. He showed them spacious streets, stupa, swimming pool and other important places found in the ruins, which amazed the guests.
