The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) participated in the observance of the Earth Hour 2012 on Saturday by switching off lights of important buildings, parks, playgrounds and streetlights from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. This was in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during a ceremony by the Sindh government and the KMC with the World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan. Sindh Environment & Alternative Energy Minister Shaikh Muhammad Afzal and Sindh Environment Secretary Mir Hussain Ali signed the MoU on behalf of the provincial government, whereas KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed represented the city government. Karachi has been declared the official city for this campaign aimed at saving energy resources. All the speakers on this occasion stressed the need of saving energy by taking part in the Earth Hour event.
