Inspector General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review the law and order situation in the city.

During the meeting, the overall security situation in the metropolis came under discussion. Law enforcers briefed IG Sindh that as many as 998 suspects had been killed since July 2014 while at least 16,583 criminals had been apprehended so far.

Rangers have intensified the operation against criminal elements while conducting various raids throughout the city, IG Sindh said.

Talking about controlling the increasing incidents of extortion, Jamali said that six extortionists were killed while 328 were arrested.

IG Sindh said that huge cache of weapons including 633 kg explosives, 64 suicide vests, five improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 447 rifles and 19 light machine guns (LMGs) had been confiscated from the possession of the militants.

He further claimed to have eliminated the ‘no go areas’ in Karachi.

Earlier, more than twenty suspects were detained during Rangers’ search operation in Essa Nagri and Purani Sabzi Mandi areas of Karachi.

The paramilitary Rangers launched a crackdown on a tip-off. Entry and exit points of the areas were sealed during the operation.

Separately, at least three terrorists were gunned down in Baghdadi. Militants engaged the Rangers as they raided the area.

City Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fida Hussain said that as many as three operatives of Uzair Baloch group were killed. Weapons were recovered from the dead miscreants who included Jabbar alias Dada, Abdul Raheen alias Rani and Rizwan alias Rado.

Hussain said that the militants were planning an attack during the local body (LB) polls. The dead terrorists were wanted in several cases of extortion, grenade attacks and target killings.

The Rangers as well as the police have been engaged in a three-year long anti-militant and crime operation in the metropolis.

  1. First time in four decades. But the Sind Police should not take the credit. They stood GUARD to those NO GO AREAS for decades. The IG knows who did it but for 'ceremony' sake !
