Punjab police to get services of retired officers for training centres

The Punjab police have decided to get services of retired officers for training centres.
This was decided at a high-level meeting on Wednesday which was held at CPO under the chairmanship of Punjab Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera.
The meeting was held to review to overcome the shortage of the police force, upgradation of training standards in all training centres and revamping and rationalisation of the staff besides checking the implementation on already issued SOP for local bodies elections during 2nd Phase.
Additional IGP Establishment Punjab Nasim-ul-Zaman, Additional IGP Operations Capt (r) Arif Nawaz, Additional IGP Training Capt (r) Usman Khattak, Additional IGP Special Branch Faisal Shahkar, Additional IGP PHP Dr Arif Mushtaq, DIG Establishment-I Nawaz Warraich, DIG Establishment-II Azhar Hameed Khokhar, DIG Headquarters Farooq Mazhar, DIG Welfare and Finance Jan Muhammad, DIG Investigations Muhammad Azam, Commandant Police Training College Lahore DIG Fayyaz Ahmad, DIG PHP Salman Chaudhry, AIG Finance Hussain Habib Imtiaz, AIG Operations Waqar Abbasi, AIG Admin, Zubair Dreshak and other senior police officers attended the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting that all officials who were attached with other branches would be removed immediately and sent back to their parent sections. The meeting also reviewed in detail the progress of implementation on the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the display and carrying of weapons during the polling.
Briefing the IGP regarding this matter, Additional IGP (Operations) Arif Nawaz said that the exercise regarding collection of licensed weapons in police stations and getting surety bonds from contesting candidates was being carried out successfully.
He informed the meeting that the Punjab police had collected 1,813 weapons from 1,703 candidates of various political parties so far. The dropped weapons included 244 kalashnikovs, 777 rifles, 572 pistols and 220 other weapons.
The IGP was also told that 16,507 contesting candidates submitted their surety bonds – 3841 belong to PML-N, 2,828 to PTI and 9,838 independent candidates.
According to the vision of chief minister, zero-tolerance policy regarding display of arms would be followed.
Moreover, the meeting also decided that the deployment would be performing duties in two shifts. The first shift would start from 7:00am to 4:00pm, and the post election second shift deployment would perform their duties from 4:00pm till further orders.
