The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday directed the inspector general of Sindh police to provide security to former home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza.

Headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, the SHC bench disposed of the petition after the Rangers excused from providing security to Dr Mirza as were already busy in ongoing targeted operation in the province.

The Rangers’ lawyer informed the court that paramilitary force was busy in the targeted operation as well as making security measures for upcoming local government elections. According to the Rangers’ counsel, they had insufficient personnel and were unable to provide security to Dr Mirza.

The Sindh’s advocate general stated before the court that Dr Mirza did not need any security and his security concerns were uncalled for.

The rebel PPP leader submitted that an attack was recently made on his life in district Badin only because he was contesting local government polls. He submitted to the court that there were grave threats to his life.

After the excuse of the paramilitary force from providing security to Dr Mirza, the SHC directed the IG to take every possible step for his security.

  1. Advocate General Sind speaking PPP language. Dr Mirza's life is in danger for sure. Interior Minister Sind has asked SSP Badin to secure PPP's interests. Last May, Dr Mirza's farm was surrounded by Sind Police from four districts. He could have been killed by now had his wife not come to his rescue. Dr Mirza has, however, welcomed Bilawal in Badin and that is gracious of him.
