Accountability Court (AC) on Tuesday summoned former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf among 19 accused in Sumandri corruption scandal on November 19 for indictment.
Judge Jisar Baig of AC was hearing the corruption reference case.
The court granted one-day exemptions to the former PM, Ismail Qureshi and Tahir Basharat Cheema and summoned the accused on November 19.
The nominated persons are accused of graft, violation of the laws and granting illegal contracts.
Former PM Pervaiz Ashraf was implicated in the case when he was serving in the government as minister of water and power. At the time, he oversaw the import of short-term power stations that cost the government millions of dollars but produced little energy. A ship-mounted power unit to produce at least 232 Mega Watt (MW) was imported from Turkey.
Ashraf has denied all the corruption charges against him.
Meanwhile, while hearing the Naudero-1 power project corruption case, the court reissued arrest warrant of Private Power and Infrastructure Board’s (PPIB) former managing director (MD) as he did not appear before the court.
The hearing was adjourned until November 19.
