The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday expressed dissatisfaction over the police report in suo motu rape case of a 5 year old girl in Mughalpura, Lahore and voiced strong displeasure over police poor performance in the case.

“Police should accept its failure in this case. All the proceedings conducted so far by the police are on papers only. The report on the proceedings carried out by police in this case is tantamount to attempted deception of the court which cannot be tolerated,” the court remarked.

The SC Lahore registry bench of Justice Saqib Nisar took up the case for hearing the suo motu notice case.

Senior police officers told the court during the hearing of the case that efforts were underway to arrest the accused. Over 200 suspected persons have been nabbed so far and their DNA tests have been conducted. But all these individuals were found innocent and were released. They said that efforts were being made to arrest the accused.

The court while seeking progress report on the enquiry adjourned hearing of the case indefinitely.
