The residents of KP enjoyed Iqbal Day holiday yesterday. I don’t know whether Iqbal will be happy just because people are enjoying time with their families or he will be sad that his name is being used for a holiday while no one follows his philosophy. Symbolism without right actions is meaningless.
Both Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam wanted Pakistan to be an Islamic social welfare state but that dream cannot be realised until each citizen of the state achieves khudi i.e., liberation from chains of social injustice and personal greed. We are still far from realising our true potential and celebrating a holiday in the name of Iqbal may not be a tool to help. Quaid who considered Allama his ideological guide gave us three pillars to build on unity, faith and discipline. We need to build on these three pillars using the cement of khudi practised by each one of us.
