Police nab four accused of Khairpur killings

Police claimed to have apprehended four accused, including a government official, of Daraza tragedy in which 12 people were killed in an armed clash between two groups during polling for first phase of local bodies elections on October 31.

SSP Khairpur Pir Muhammad Shah said police also seized eight Kalashnikovs, two hand grenades and other sophisticated weapons from the possession of accused of Waryo Wahan incident.

The police officer said that more than 20 cases were registered against the accused in different police stations. The arrested government official had arrived Waryo Wahan from Gilgit two days prior to the incident, he added.

Pir Muhammad Shah disclosed that police raided various villages including Wariyo Wahan Junejo, Wattini, Kaisar Shahani and Sinakder Junejo village and arrested the accused.

Meanwhile, PML-F leader and MPA Pir Ismail Shah Rashidi while talking to media on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction over the arrests only. He said it was his right to visit polling stations in his constituency where the armed persons were already present. He said they had already submitted application for security but at the time of the incident only three cops were present and they did not resist the attackers.
