Chairperson of Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr Asim Hussain’s wife on Thursday retracted her contempt of court plea against Rangers.

Dr Asim Hussain is currently under Rangers custody.

Dr Zareen Hussain’s counsel maintained that her client has advised him to reverse the plea.

A division bench of Sindh High Court comprising Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Junaid Ghuffar held hearing of the petition. Barrister Abid Zubairi asked the court to discard the plea filed.

She retracted the plea as the Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered Hussain’s thorough medical checkup.
However, earlier the Rangers had not conducted a medical checkup of Asim despite court orders. Barrister Zubairi said that the purpose behind filing the plea has been achieved through the SC.

Earlier, the SC had ordered federal secretary health to form a medical board for check up of former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain. The board will give a recommendation regarding his transfer to hospital.

Law Officer of Rangers Major Ishfaq had told the court that Hussain was under thorough supervision and his sugar level and blood pressure were being monitored regularly. The counsel for the petitioner requested the court to order checkup of Hussain by an unbiased board. He said that the board put together by the Rangers should not comprise army medics.

It is also worth mentioning here that Hussain was shifted to hospital due to heart problem after he was detained by Rangers in alleged corruption case.
PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s close aide, Hussain, was given in Rangers custody for 90 days by a Karachi court. However, the accused was shifted to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Karachi.
