- Says party’s popularity on an upward trajectory
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab President Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said on Monday the party cannot be eliminated from the political scene of the country as was being predicted by certain critics before the recent local bodies elections in Punjab and Sindh.
Wattoo, in a statement, said the elections results clearly indicated the trend that the PPP was set to stage a comeback in Punjab notwithstanding the fact that a large number of party workers had supported independent candidates at the local levels as per permission by the PPP leadership to make seat adjustments, keeping in view the dynamics of local politics.
Wattoo asserted that a large number of independent candidates had been declared successful in Punjab due to a certain degree of support of the PPP since other major parties were unable to make such arrangements.
He maintained that the PPP would continue to remain the only viable option for the liberal and progressive segments of society that were in overwhelming majority in the country and wanted to carry on the nation-building process.
Wattoo pointed out that PPP’s political opponents were even forecasting dooms day scenario for it in Sindh but the elections confirmed that its popularity was on an upward trajectory. The stronghold of the PPP had been further fortified in its favor, he added.
Wattoo also congratulated those candidates who contested the elections on the PPP symbol and were declared successful in Punjab.
