The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued a contempt notice to Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police, Ghulam Haider Jamali, for flouting its order regarding removal of encroachments from Railway Society’s land.
Headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, the SHC bench was hearing the court’s contempt plea for not removing encroachment from the land which was allocated to the Railway Cooperative Society.
Earlier, on 29th September, the SHC had directed the police and other concerned departments to remove encroachments and evacuate railways’ land, however, they did not obey the court’s order. So, the petitioner filed the contempt of court petition.
On the petition, the SHC directed the IG Sindh to ensure his appearance and inform the court why its order had not been complied with yet. Despite the court’s direction, the IGP did not appear before the court on Tuesday’s hearing.
Additional Attorney General (AAG) Ghulam Mustafa Mahesar informed the court that the IG had to appear before the Supreme Court; therefore, Additional IG of Sindh Police and DSP had affected their appearance.
The SHC issued notice to the Sindh’s top police official for filing his reply within a week. “Let show cause notice be issued to the inspector general of Sindh police as to why proceeding for disobedience of this court’s order dated 29th September should not be initiated against him. His response should be on record within a week’s time,” the order stated.
