Congress leader Manish Tewari on Friday said people who wanted to communalise and polarise country are only seeking to Pakistanised India in a clear attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra after Udhhav Thackrey’s demand for declaring India a Hindu Rahstra.

“Those who wants to communalise and polarize this country either through Dadri or by throwing ink at others or by taking about uniform civil code are only seeking to Pakistanised India,” Tewari told Indian media. Tewari said India doesn’t require a uniform civil code.

“The sooner you amend the constitution and delete article 44 of the directive principle of state policy which talks about a uniform civil code the better it would be for this country,” he added.

Tewri further added that India has diverse phase and within those phase there are diverse practices. Within the Hindu pantheon there are a million Gods who are worshiped, there are thousand different ways in which marriages are performed.

“Now do we want to wipe out that entire diversity and put a stamp of uniformity on it? That is not the essence of India,” said Tewari.
Thackeray had said earlier that the country should be declared a Hindu Rashtra, demanding an imposition of uniform civil code in the country.
