The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought a reply from the federal government in connection with a change in procedure for appointing the PEMRA chairman.

A petitioner has challenged an advertisement published in newspapers in connection to appointment of the PEMRA chief saying that the educational qualification for the slot has been curtailed from MA and BA-LLB and the condition of second division has also been waived.

The court maintained that the matter was of public interest and its attention has been drawn to the changes made in the appointment of PEMRA chairman in contrary to set rule and law.

IHC judge Noorul Haq Qureshi remarked that the educational qualification the PEMRA chairman should be according to the set rule. The court observed that the government and the information ministry should inform the court about the changes made to appoint the PEMRA chief.

It may be mentioned that the information ministry has completed interviews of candidates for PEMRA chairman slot. The court adjourned the matter till next hearing to be set by Registrar Office.
