Five political activists among 41 detained in various raids

At least 41 people, including five activists of a political party, were detained on suspicion in operations by law enforcement agencies in different parts of Karachi on Friday.

According to officials, Rangers and police personnel carried out search operations in Liaquatabad, Shah Faisal Colony, Manghopir, Sultanabad,Landhi, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, and OrangiTown areas of the city in the wee hours of the day.

The law enforcers detained 35 people on suspicion. The detained suspects included five activists of a political party.

Meanwhile, target killers shot two policemen dead in the city area of Bahadurabad. The broad daylight attack took place in Karachi area near Char Minar Chowrangi in Bahadurabad. Unidentified miscreants riding motorcycles shot at the cops. The victims, identified as constable Pervez and constable Abdul Ghaffar, suffered fatal gunshot wounds and died on way to hospital, a police official said. Police arrived at the scene and collected evidences soon after the attack.

In a separate gun attack, two traffic wardens were injured near Golimar Chowrangi, police said. The traffic wardens were identified as Zaman and Chann who received bullet wounds in an armed attack by unknown gunmen. It should be mentioned here that half a dozen traffic policemen were killed and several others injured in armed attacks in different parts of the city during the last couple of months, prompting the provincial authorities to equip the traffic wardens with weapons. Last month police claimed to have arrested a man involved in attacking traffic wardens. According to police, the same group was involved in the attacks.
