President Pakistan Kissan Ittehad Khalid Mehmood Khokhar on Friday appealed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to review its decision regarding Kissan Package announced by the federal government as it had several attractive concessions and incentives for the farmers.
The concessions and incentives contained in the package had encouraged the farmers’ community which was badly depressed prior to announcement of the package, he said addressing a press conference along with General Secretary Kissan Ittihad, Mian Umair Masood at National Press Club (NPC).
He said the entire farmers’ community had welcomed the package for the growth of agriculture sector which plays an important role in the country’s economy.
Khalid Khokhar said that Kissan Ittehad represents the small farmers who are more vulnerable in current situation including taxes imposed on fertilizers and other agriculture products.
He said first time in country’s history, small farmers are unified for their rights and are demanding subsidy on agriculture, fertilizers and other products.
The president Kissan Ittehad urged the government to resolve farmers’ issues and provide them conducive environment for development of agriculture sector.
He proposed that government should withdraw general sales tax and duty on agriculture products.
