Given protocol despite request against it, says President Alvi

KARACHI: President Arif Alvi on Saturday on Saturday said that he was given VIP protocol despite his request against it.

The president was given protocol while he was on his way to his residence from Karachi Airport.

President Alvi said that he had only asked for two to four cars.

He tweeted, “The long chain of official cars following me is despite the fact that I asked all officials present at the airport not to embarrass me with a huge protocol and that one or two cars in front and one or two cars behind may satisfy their security needs. Did not happen. We have to try harder.”

The president’s cavalcade may also have had included cars that are part of the protocols given to the Sindh chief minister (CM) and governor.

Both the Sindh governor and CM had gone to the airport to receive President Alvi.

Responding to this, the president tweeted, “That is true too, so we must manage this better.”

Responding to a citizen complaining about police personnel outside his private residence, the president tweeted, “We should look into this too and not become a nuisance for my own neighbourhood where I have lived all my life. I do not begrudge security but when it becomes painful for the common man we should draw a line somewhere.”

On the other hand, President Alvi reportedly carried his luggage himself and had stood in a queue to board the flight.
