The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday once again issued notices to Rangers to file comments on a petition filed by Dr Asim Hussain’s family seeking medical facilitation for him.
The petition was filed by the mother of Dr Asim on the day he was detained by the paramilitary force in which she argues that his son is not wanted in any case and is willing to cooperate with the relevant investigation authority if any accusation is leveled against him.
The petitioner stated that Dr Asim is a chronic patient of blood pressure, diabetes and relies on medication. She also said that charges of corruption against him are false, while producing him before the anti-terrorism court (ATC) in corruption case is unlawful.
The hearing of the petition was conducted in Judge’s chamber due to lawyers’ boycotts against the killing of their colleague Syed Ameer Haider Shah. The Sindh Court had earlier issued notices to Rangers to file comments on Monday, but neither the Rangers officials nor law officers appeared before the court. The court repeated its notices to Rangers to file comments on September 2.
Former federal minister and Higher Education Commission chairman, Dr Asim, is currently in Rangers’ detention for 90 days under section 11 EEEE Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, over his alleged involvement in corruption and offences related to terrorism. The Rangers told ATC that they had credible information about Dr Asim’s involvement in offences which came under the ambit of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997.
