Bahria Town needs time to prepare illegal land case

Counsel for Bahria Town, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, has prayed the Supreme Court (SC) for three-week adjournment of case pertaining to illegal acquisition of land and destruction of forest case against Bahria Town and Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

Muhammad Shafi had filed petition in SC against Bahria Town and DHA for illegally acquiring land and destruction of forest and SC has fixed August 31 for hearing this case.

In an application, Bahria’s counsel said that Punjab Forest Department filed 292 documents comprising 1,119 pages in three volumes in SC in compliance with the court’s August 21 orders. Most of the documents have been derived from the official record to which Bahria Town has not been privy. It is first time that such documents have been presented in any proceedings.

It was further requested in the application that these documents have came into the hands of Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, on August 28 upon his return from abroad. Therefore, suitable time is needed by senior counsel and the party he represents to go through the documents and file proper reply.

It was further requested that as Aitzaz Ahsan is scheduled to represent Pakistan in an Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference at the UN Headquarters in New York from August 31 to September, 2, therefore, hearing of the case be put off for 3 weeks.
