Unbecoming of a Senator

Reference to recent case in Supreme Court of Pakistan and the role of a prominent Senator defending a controversial land mafia don with a history of occupying state and private land in connivance with corrupt administration and law enforcement agencies. Holding any constitutional office brings with it the responsibility to act in a manner that dignifies the post that a person holds. Democratic norms and ethics are established just like wheel that has been invented and need to be adhered to if any person desires to hold the high office of a Senator of Pakistan.

A balance has to be established between corporate business interests and responsibilities. Moral code of ethics and high tradition of democratic norms must prevail if democracy, freedom of expression, constitutional fundamental rights are to be upheld. You have to choose between gains involved for serving to protect villains as professional lawyers, if you simultaneously desire to hold a public office, either paid or honourary. Prostituting the noble profession of an officer of law who simultaneously holds an elected public office, where he has sworn to uphold constitution and rule of law, places a lot of responsibility on an individual and if you have to succumb to temptation and greed, then at least resign from Senate.
