Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s Justice Muhammad Anwar Kansi on Wednesday reserved a judgment on the maintainability of a petition seeking court intervention on the resignation issue of Muttahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmakers.
Arguing before the court, petitioner’s counsel Kokab Iqbal spoke out against the objection raised by court registrar, substantiating that the petition was concerned with the interest of the voters deprived of representation in assemblies and Senate after MQM members’ resignation.
Lamenting the alleged ‘delay’ on the National Assembly speaker’s part, Iqbal requested the court to order Senate chairman and speakers of national and Sindh assemblies to accept MQM lawmakers’ resignations per law.
Furthermore, the petitioner’s counsel highlighted that “staining of Pakistan’s international image” caused by NA speaker’s nine-month delay in sorting out Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf members’ resignations.
Following the arguments, the court reserved judgment on the petition’s maintainability and adjourned the hearing.
