KARACHI
Chlorine has reportedly not been found in Karachi’s 41% city areas’ water, indicating that millions of citizens are at risk of contracting Naegleria fowleri, the brain-eating amoeba, officials claimed Wednesday.
They added that the finding was a part of an effort to raise awareness amongst people of the problem, and involve them to take measures against the parasite that has killed nine people in the city.
The focal group was created by the Sindh government 45 days back after several deaths by the brain-eater had been reported in the media.
“The water situation is far worse than what was witnessed in previous years,” the officials said.
