Time, Rs 1.5bn needed to fix dilapidated schools

The Rawalpindi Education Department has sought Rs 1.5 billion from the Punjab government to start work on dilapidated and dangerous school buildings in the district.

An official in the education department told Online that the Punjab government has constituted a committee headed by MPA Raja Muhammad Ali for conducting a survey of dilapidated school buildings before approving the amount required for the rehabilitation.

The official said that the MPA has sought a report from EDO Education Qazi Izharul Haq about dilapidated school structures, which require an urgent renovation and overhaul.

The official said that 23 school buildings have already been identified as highly dangerous in a survey recently conducted by the Punjab government.

Meanwhile, the EDO said that the survey of dangerous buildings will be completed before Eid and so far 384 school buildings have been found dangerous.
