Governor says first phase of SWA TDPs’ repatriation completed, 35,000 families repatriated to Khyber Agency, 40,000 families to NWA
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan Saturday said that due to successful military operation against militancy in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), peace is prevailing in the region and repatriation of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) has started.
While talking to US Ambassador Richard Olson, who paid farewell call on him at the Governor’s House on Saturday, the governor said that first phase of the “dignified repatriation” of TDPs of South Waziristan Agency has completed.
US Council General Jon F Danilowicz, ODRP Chief Lt Gen Anthony J Rock, Political and Economic Officer Elizabeth Threlkeld also accompanied the ambassador on the ocassion.
Talking on various points, the governor apprised the US ambassador about the administrative reforms introduced in FATA coupled with the on-going process of strengthening of administrative system to protect basic rights of the respective people and ensure stability and security in the area. All these measured, he added, have been accruing highly positive response and the government is heading forward in line with the aspiration of the people of FATA.
Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan said that law and order situation was improving day by day and the civil administration is on the back track, playing pivotal role in the repatriation and rehabilitation of TDPs to their homeland.
The governor said that first phase of the dignified repatriation of TDPs of South Waziristan Agency have almost completed and 35,000 families have repatriated to Khyber Agency and 40,000 families to North Waziristan Agency. He mentioned that complete repatriation to Khyber Agency will take place till the mid of August. He thanked the US ambassador for their support in the tribal areas.
