A district and sessions court in Islamabad reserved a judgment to halt a defamation suit against PTI chief on a plea of Imran Khan’s counsel who said he had challenged a fine slapped on him by this court earlier in IHC.
Former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry has filed an Rs30 billion defamation lawsuit in the district and sessions court against the PTI chief
When District and Sessions Judge Kamran Basharat Mufti took up the case for hearing, Imran’s counsel Babar Awan told the court that the issue already awaited a verdict in the higher court.
He argued that the court should halt hearing in the case until the IHC adjudicates his appeal against the lower court’s decision.
Sheikh Ahsanud Din, who represented Chaudhry, while opposing Awan’s plea said that the rival party was misleading the court persistently as he had not presented evidence in support of his petition filed in the IHC.
Din contended that the rival party was defying court order and Awan has failed to deposit the fine amount slapped on him.
The court directed Awan to present a copy of the petition he had filed in the IHC reserved the judgment in the case.
