Cop among six killed in violence

At least six people including a policeman were killed in different incidents of firing in Karachi late Saturday and early Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, police carried out search operations in different parts of the metropolis, arresting 11 suspects in raids in Shah Faisal Colony, Orangi Town, Pakistan Bazaar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal areas.

According to rescue sources, the first incident took place in Jamali Goth area near Super Highway where a man and his son were killed by gunshots inside their house. A woman was also injured in the firing.

Police said the firing took place due to a domestic dispute. The bodies and the injured woman were shifted to the AbbassiShaheedHospital. Police said they were carrying out further investigation into the incident.

Earlier, a man was killed and another injured when gunmen riding motorcycles opened fire in 11-G area of New Karachi, police said. The injured man was shifted to a hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The victim was identified as policeman, Saifullah, who was deployed on duty at the Karachi Industrial Area police station. Another policeman was injured in firing near Rabi Centre on the city’s commercial Tariq Road area. In a separate incident, a man was killed and another injured by firing in Qaim Khani Colony.

Meanwhile, police said it killed two suspects of the Lyari gang-war in an alleged encounter in Machhar Colony area.

According to SSP City Fida Hussain of the Docks Police Station, personnel acted on a tip-off and conducted a raid in Machhar colony. On seeing the police, the accused opened fire and two were killed in the exchange of gunfire.

Police claimed that the two killed in the police shootout belong to Uzair Baloch group of Lyari gangs and were involved in different crimes of murder and extortion.
