The Sindh High Court on Friday issued notice to SSP Malir Rao Anwar to respond to a petition filed by wife of an alleged RAW agent, belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, seeking an inquiry into confessional statement of her husband regarding his connections with the Indian spy agency RAW.
A division bench headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto was hearing the petition filed by Najma Tahir, wife of the suspect, who moved the court pleading it to order an inquiry into confessional statement of her husband regarding his association with the Indian spy agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
The petitioner submitted that her spouse was arrested from Mukka Chowk, Azizabad, on February 24. Later, SSP Rao told the media that the police had arrested her husband on April 30 and he was associated with the Indian spy agency. It was alleged that he had got training from the RAW to carry out criminal activities in Karachi.
Refuting the official claims, she said her husband was tortured by the law enforcers and coerced into making such a confessional statement before the media. Therefore, the woman petitioner requested the court to order a medical examination of the suspect to prove whether he was tortured. The court was further prayed to order an inquiry into the confessional statement of Tahir regarding his association with RAW.
