The launching ceremony of the Metro Bus Project (MBS) is likely to take place on May 22 or May 23, since the Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Mian Shehbaz Sharif has finalised both dates and sent them to the Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif.

Directives have been issued to district administration Rawalpindi and city police to make stringent security measures. The launching ceremony will be held in Rawalpindi or Islamabad.

PM and CM Punjab will inaugurate this project while aboard a bus. In the first bus, the district management of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, members of assembly, senators and PML-N leaders will board the first bus by purchasing a Rs 20 ticket. With this activity, the metro bus service will start. The metro bus has a sitting capacity for 35 commuters and standing capacity for 100 commuters. Fares will be charged at flat rate of Rs 20 per commuter.

Training of security guards recruited for security of this project has been completed. Between eight to 10 security guards will be deployed at each bus station. Two to three female guards will also be appointed on every station.

Security guards equipped with wireless apparatus and guns will continue to patrol the entire day in shifts on the entire MBS route.
