Energy crisis? Shahbaz has it handled!

The government is working day and night to speedily complete the energy generation projects to meet the energy requirements and fully encouraging companies to invest in this sector, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Wednesday in a meeting with a delegation led by special envoy and US Department of State International Energy Affairs coordinator Amos J Hochstein.

Matters of mutual interest and ongoing projects in energy sector were discussed during the meeting.

Talking to the delegation, the chief minister said that the government is taking all possible steps vigorously for overcoming the shortfall of electricity and timely completion of long and short term projects is being ensured.

“Efforts are being made for resolving energy problems on priority basis for the durable development of the province and all possible resources are being utilised for this purpose,” he said.

The delegation appreciated the steps taken by the chief minister to curb the energy crisis.

Meanwhile, presiding over a high-level meeting on solar energy projects being set up in the province, Shahbaz said that the government has set up Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park in Bahawalpur which is the first and the biggest solar power station of the country. He said that this 100 megawatt project has been completed by Punjab government with its own resources within a record period and will soon be inaugurated. He said that the government is taking speedy measures for resolving the energy crisis being faced by the country and special incentives are being offered to foreign investors for increasing investment in energy sector in the province.

He said that the solar power station to be set up in the desert of Cholistan is a big hope for a brighter future of the country. He said that a solar power project of 900 megawatt is being set up with the cooperation of China and every effort is being made for its completion by the beginning of 2016.
