Wishing for a Karachi where Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s exiled leader Altaf Hussain could feel safe, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq on Wednesday condemned weaponisation of political parties.

“JI is against militancy in all its forms, may it be armed wings, militias and guerrilla force. We say no to use of arms in politics. Also we have no ties with any gun-wielding group,” Haq told a news channel.

Haq went on to say that residents of Karachi got nothing for supporting the MQM for so long. “The real hurdle in the way of the Karachi’s progress was nothing but the MQM,” said the JI leader.

Replying to a question, Haq rejected the impression that cracks have started appearing in JI’s ties with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf after his party fielded a candidate for NA 246 by-election.
