  • Various parties to appear before judicial commission with poll rigging proofs

In its first meeting, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Nasirul Mulk and attended by Justice Ameer Hani Muslim and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, the General Election 2013 Inquiry Commission Thursday invited proposals from the political parties who participated in the 2013 polls to make submissions on alleged rigging.

The proposals shall be in the form of brief statement accompanied by supporting evidence or material to be submitted by April 15 to Muhammad Hamid Ali, CJP’s secretary who will act as secretary to the commission.

The first public hearing by the commission shall be held on April 16 at 1pm in Court Room No 1 of the Supreme Court. Any person or a counsel appearing on behalf of a political party shall produce due authorisation from the head of the party.

Soon after the JC’s meeting and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s decision to submit the proofs of rigging to the commission, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and Balochistan National Party (BNP) have also decided to present evidence at the forum.

PPP, JUI-F and ANP have come together to show proofs of rigging against PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP).

ANP Senator Zahid Khan said that his party will provide proofs of “record-breaking” rigging in KP.

PPP’s Liaqat Shabab said that PTI won half of its seats by rigging. JUI-F will submit an application to investigate rigging in all constituencies of KP.

Meanwhile, PPP Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said that he will provide proofs of rigging in all constituencies of Lahore. While in Balochistan, BNP has decided to go in judicial commission in support of PTI. Former caretaker Punjab chief minister Najam Sethi has also written a letter to the judicial commission for the investigation of Imran Khan’s allegations against him.
