Six suspected terrorists killed in ‘encounters’

At least five suspected terrorists were killed in an encounter with Sindh Rangers in Kaemari Town on Wednesday.

According to the paramilitary force, acting on a tip-off, the Rangers carried out an operation on a location in Kaemari’s Tapo area in which two paramilitary personnel were also injured. According to a Rangers spokesperson, a resident had informed the paramilitary force about the presence of suspected terrorists in the area at about 6 am via their 1101 helpline. The spokesman added that following the tip-off, the force took immediate action and reached the location and cordoned off the area.

As soon as Rangers’ personnel reached the site, the terrorists opened fire, the spokesman said, adding they also threw hand grenades aimed towards the paramilitary force personnel who then returned the fire. As a result, five suspected terrorists were killed and two Rangers personnel were injured. The bodies and the injured were subsequently shifted to a local hospital.

Five hand grenades were also recovered from the possession of the suspected terrorists. According to Rangers, the alleged terrorists, who the force did not clearly identify, were associated with a banned organisation. The Rangers spokesman said in action in Sherpao Colony, the force recovered eight SMG rifles and 77 other weapons from a graveyard. He said the arms were hidden by the outlawed fearing raid.

In another incident, a gang war accused was killed in exchange of firing with police in Lyari area. SSP City Fida Hussain said the gang war accused Hanif DJ was involved in the target killing of 40 persons. Police also killed a narcotics dealer in Pak Colony and arrested his two accomplices. Meanwhile, a police official Zaheeruddin was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Korangi area of the city.
