- PTI demands removal of Sindh governor while ANP urges govt not to hasten Mirza’s hanging
Political parties Thursday reacted strongly to the sensational revelations made by Muttahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) death-row convict Saulat Mirza whose execution has been delayed on a presidential order.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Information Secretary Shireen Mazari has called upon the government to remove Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan from his office following Mirza’s disclosures against MQM and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership.
“After the statement of Saulat Mirza, Ishratul Ibad should immediately be removed from office so that he should not be a hindrance in free and fair investigation,” Mazari said.
In the meanwhile, Awami National Party (ANP) leader Shahi Syed has urged the government not to hasten Mirza’s execution, stressing that the “masterminds behind such criminals” also needed to be brought to justice.
“Nothing will be achieved by only punishing criminals like Ajmal Pahari and Saulat Mirza. The people behind such criminals also need to be brought to justice,” said the ANP Sindh chief in an interview with a news channel.
Syed said that countries spend millions to protect key witnesses and urged the Pakistani government to also treat Mirza’s case with similar care.
“This is not merely about the life of one man. Thousands of Urdu-speaking citizens have been killed and hundreds of Pakhtoons have been martyred (in Karachi). All those who dared to speak up, their voices were silenced. We have witnessed all of this, there is nothing new in this for me,” he said.

Just hours before his execution, MQM worker Saulat Mirza alleged in a supposed video confession that he killed former KESC director Shahid Hamid on the directives of party chief Altaf Hussain.
